Two new ground-breaking California laws will require companies doing business in California, including food and agriculture companies, to report their annual greenhouse gas emissions, climate-related financial risk exposures, and climate risk management plans. Notably, the reach of the California laws extends beyond the proposed Securities and Exchange (SEC) climate-related financial risk rule (which also would mandate emissions disclosures and which IATP strongly supported) to include privately held companies, such as Cargill, as well as companies covered by the proposed SEC rule.

The main cost of an electric vehicle (EV) is its battery. The high cost of energy-dense batteries has meant EVs have long been more expensive than their fossil fuel equivalents. But this could change faster than we thought. The world's largest maker of batteries for electric cars, China's CATL, claims it will slash the cost of its batteries by up to 50% this year, as a price war kicks off with the second largest maker in China, BYD subsidiary FinDreams.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Much of the world takes daily weather forecasts for granted. But most of Africa's 1.3 billion people live with little advance knowledge of what's to come. That can be both deadly and expensive, with damage running in the billions of dollars. The first Africa Climate Summit opens Monday in Kenya to highlight the continent that will suffer the most from climate change while contributing to it the least.

Global warming is real and climate change is worsening day-by-day with raging forest fires, unseasonably warm winters and flooding disasters taking place across Canada. Meanwhile, the carbon-zero transition required to move away from such a dire future is hampered by a key weakness — "critical minerals." The energy transition depends on so-called "battery" or "critical" minerals to be successful — minerals which must be mined or recycled.
