The National Education Policy Center at the University of Colorado posted a summary of research about the current "Science of Reading" fad, which finds that the "science" is missing. SoR has turned into another "miracle cure" that is being imposed and mandated by legislatures, anticipating a dramatic result in which "no child is left behind." Not much, according to NEPC Fellow Elena Aydarova of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as explained in a recent article published in the peer-refereed Harvard Educational Review. In fact, she warns that legislators are using science-of-reading legislation to distract from more serious approaches to addressing students' needs.

Keith Tracey knows drones, gaming and construction. Now he has pivoted to working in 3D printing thanks to an interest that began as a hobby. Keith Tracey reckons 3D printing will become as important as AI. So much so that when his friend's child asked him for advice on what to study after finishing school, Tracey answered: "3D or AI, both of them are here to stay".

On a crisp winter day in March, politicians stood near the frozen edge of Loafer's Lake in Brampton. The beneficiaries of this funding slept nearby, beneath a thick crust of ice, dormant in a state known as brumation—the cold-blooded version of hibernation. Loafer's Lake is home to several turtle species, including the Snapping Turtle, of special concern in the province largely due to the incursion of human activity in their sensitive habitats. .

For decades, traditional cameras worked very much like the human eye: the cornea served as the lens cover, the iris and pupil became the aperture, and the lens became, well, the camera lens. But human vision has its limits, so the next generation of camera makers may have to look a little further for inspiration. Scientists have developed an artificial eye inspired by the fiddler crab (the crab with the single huge claw). Compared to a pair of human eyes, which together can see about 180 degrees, the fiddler crab has an almost 360-degree field of view. It also can see on both land and water.
