Elina Hiltunen | Speaker Profile
Elina Hiltunen is a futurist who Forbes listed as one of the 50 leading female futurists in the world. She is an experienced keynote speaker that has delivered hundreds of lectures about various topics of the future in Finland and abroad. Currently, she is also studying at National Defence University, Finland, and completing her second Ph.D. thesis on the topic of how to use science fiction in the foresight process of a defense organization.

Elina does not only talk about innovations, she creates them herself: She has been developing tools for futures thinking, like Futures Windows and Strategic Serendipity. She is also a coinventor of TrendWiki tool – a tool for crowdsourcing the futures inside organizations. She has also created a project called Tiedettä tytöille (Science for Girls) that aims to encourage girls to study STEM.
Author highlights
Hiltunen is a writer of 14 books. The book “Foresight and Innovation: How Companies are Coping with the Future” (in Finnish: Matkaopas tulevaisuuteen) explores the field of strategic foresight. It was published in Finnish by Talentum in 2012 and in English by Palgrave, 2013.
Hiltunen has also written a book about the Future of Technology in 2035 with her husband, Kari Hiltunen, who is Dr. Tech by education. The book was published in 2014 in Finnish by Talentum and in English (2015) by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Hiltunen has also written books about consumer trends (2017) and megatrends (2019). These books are currently available only in Finnish.
Speaker background
Elina has experience working as a futurist at Nokia, Finland Futures Research Centre, and Finpro (Finnish trade promotion association). She has also worked as an Executive in Residence at Aalto University, ARTS. She has had a company of her own, What’s Next Consulting Oy, since 2007. As an entrepreneur, she has been working for multiple organizations as a consultant who aims to make organizations more prepared for the future.
Elina also owns a publishing company Saageli which was founded March, 2021. Saageli is focusing on publishing Elina Hiltunen’s books. As of 2022, Elina has written/co-written 14 books altogether. Four of them are about the future. One is a science fiction book with seven stories about the future. Two of the future books have been translated into English as well. Also, her Ph.D. thesis about weak signals was written in English.
Elina is also an active columnist in various business and technology magazines, and she has been participating in Finnish Broadcasting company YLE’s science-themed television series.
