Dr. Marcus T Anthony, Ph.D., has twenty years of experience as a futurist and academic. A regular keynote speaker at international conferences, Anthony’s primary interests are in regards to our human relationship with technology and its impact on learning, well-being, sensemaking, and human intelligence. Related to the latter is his interest in technologies like ChatGTP/AI, the metaverse, and augmented reality and their effects on the development of individuals, society, and human civilization. How are we to live meaningful and authentic lives in the AI Society, when technologies and content creators are constantly attempting to forcefully distort our opinions, our identities and our minds?
Much of Dr. Anthony’s writing and teaching as a futurist has been centered on creating Deep Futures, preferred futures which transcend the technocracy of the Money and Machines Society, and which incorporate a greater value on community, environment, and mindful embodiment. Much of this research has been inspired by personal experience in exploring the human mind, including via mindfulness, meditation, and emotional body work. His most recent mission has been to establish the Power and Presence Project, while writing the book of the same name.
Marcus T Anthony has worked in Education for twenty-five years, teaching in Australia, New Zealand, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He currently lives in Zhuhai, southern China, where he holds the position of Associate Professor of Foresight and Strategy at the Beijing Institute of Technology. There he teaches courses like “Artificial Intelligence and the Futures of the Mind,” and “Sensemaking in the Digital Society.”
Dr. Anthony has published more than fifty academic journal papers and book chapters, as well as ten popular and academic books, including the upcoming Power and Presence: Reclaiming Your Authentic Self in a Weaponized World (2023). This volume explores establishing an empowering identity and meaningful life in the AI Society, via the practice of digital wisdom and embodied presence.
