The different types of content on the Quantum Foresight Platform

The following is an overview of the different types of editorial content available on the Quantumrun Foresight Platform.

Signals

Marked in purple, each signal post is primarily composed of an insightful link to news, insights, and data from external websites, journals, and databases that hint at one or more emerging trends. These posts are accessible to all platform users, and the signal posts found on the homepage, trend signals page, and category pages are all manually uploaded or moderated by Quantumrun staff.

Insights

Marked in black, insight posts are short-form editorial profiles (600-800 words on average) of emerging themes—especially business models, policies, and systems—but are too small to be considered a trend.

Technology

Marked in black, technology posts are short-form editorial profiles (600-800 words on average) of engineered innovations in materials, software, hardware, protocols, etc. Each technology post features the innovation’s Technology Readiness Level (TRL) rating; the TRL system is commonly used in top engineering firms and government agencies.

Trends

Marked in black, trend posts are longer-form editorials (800-1,000 words on average) that reference multiple Insight and Technology posts in a manner that points toward a common and emerging technological, commercial, or societal theme or direction.

Megatrends

Marked in black, megatrends are pages that cluster numerous Trend posts to communicate a macro theme/force that will influence one major aspect of humanity’s future.

Forecasts

Marked in cyan (blue), forecasts posts are long-form articles (2,000 words on average) that discuss novel and often multidisciplinary macro insights gained from the post types noted above. Access to this post type is primarily restricted to paying platform subscribers, but older forecasts may be released for general public access.

Scenarios

Marked in cyan (blue), scenario posts are long-form articles (2,000-3,000 words on average) that depict several future possible scenarios inspired by the forecast posts noted above, with each scenario providing multidisciplinary insights. Access to this post type is primarily restricted to paying platform subscribers, but older scenario posts may be released for general public access.

Videos and podcasts

Quantumrun Foresight’s multimedia team often re-contextualizes the insights from the post types above into a video or audio format to appeal to users who prefer those mediums. Access to multimedia content is available to all platform users.

Lists

Marked in black, Lists are bookmarked collections that can contain any of the post types described above. These lists are created by Quantumrun staff, but others are curated by platform users; however, only those lists that were moderated by Quantumrun staff are searchable on the platform. Lists can be set to public or private based on the list owner’s preference. All registered platform users can create lists, and all platform users can view lists that have been set to ‘public.’

Sponsored content

In consultation with Quantumrun Foresight, organizations can sponsor content of any type listed above. This content can be produced by Quantumrun staff or by the organization. Production and distribution of this content is primarily to achieve specific promotional or research goals.

Forecast data pages

For years, one of the most popular parts of the Quantumrun.com website was the future timeline and country timeline pages that detailed predictions that span between 2020 to 2050. These pages are updated annually and are accessible to all website visitors.

These pages are NOT meant as serious strategic foresight publications but as a fun and accessible way to engage the public in futures thinking.
