Grades have long been the traditional way of assessing a student's performance in school, but now more and more educators are looking to alternative methods. According to an article from Wired, these new systems are based on “mastery-based learning” and allow for students to progress at their own pace rather than competing against each other. Instead of assigning letter grades or numerical scores, teachers can provide feedback that is tailored to individual student's needs with the goal of helping them truly understand the material instead of simply memorizing it for a test.
