Could your childhood fantasies become a reality? It might not be quite what you imagined, but at the Aquarius Reef Base, owned and operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, aquanauts can live up to 12 days in their underwater habitat.

Now, this may seem like nothing more than an underwater space station, but what we are looking at is just the beginning. Scientists are currently working on improvements to underwater habitats. There are talks of how to grow plants underwater through natural or artificial light to create oxygen, and applying the use of solar energy for an underwater power source. They currently rely on a watchful eye from above sea level.
